The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in North Darfur
Khartoum – Abed Algayom Ashmeag
An unknown armed group has released four Sudanese abductees affiliated to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in North Darfur.
The ICRC, said that the release process
happened, in a contained and coordinated fashion with the official authorities. The abductees, were captured by an armed group from the Fatta Borno area, south of Kutum town in North Darfur three weeks ago. The ICRC said that the workers were doing routine inspections in the region.
A security source told Arabstoday, that abductions are usually carried out in order to extort money from organisations in return for the hostages release.
This phenomenon has become commonplace, and due to the vastness of the region, this in turn creates logistical problems for state security agencies tasked with preventing these sorts of kidnappings.
