President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and Mohammed Ahmed Al Othman, UAE Ambassador to Somalia, laid the foundation stone for the second phase of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Mogadishu, on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended by heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions and ambassadors accredited to Somalia and a number of dignitaries and officials of the Somali government.
The UAE Ambassador to Somalia hailed the patronage of the Somali President at the ceremony, pointing out that the hospital currently receives more than 200 patients a day who are receiving free treatment at the hands of Emirati doctors, in cooperation with Somali cadres, to provide treatment to the Somali people.
The first phase of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Mogadishu was opened in July 2015, and the second phase of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital includes four operation theatres and 11 wards for various medical specialties.
The construction and equipping of the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Mogadishu is part of the reconstruction and development project of the Republic of Somalia, which is being implemented by the UAE in various areas and regions of Somalia.
The Somali President said that the UAE is supporting Somalia in various fields, including in the fields of education, economy, reconstruction and other areas that support the process of the restoration of the country and help to promote security and stability in Somalia.
He expressed gratitude and appreciation for the UAE government and people and to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for their sincere and continuous support for Somalia to alleviate the suffering of its people
