Fes
In the latest development in the case of a German tourist who says she was raped at a guesthouse in the old city of Fez, suspect A. T. turned himself in to the judicial police in Fez. Investigators listened to his testimony
concerning the allegation before deciding to put him under observation for 48 hours for further investigations, until he stands before the King’s Attorney General in Fez Court of Appeal.
Arabstoday learned that forensics department in Fez, within their research in the case, took samples from the suspect’s blood and saliva and sent them to the national technical and scientific police labs in Casablanca to carry out DNA tests — after the German tourist provided undergarments with semen remains on it last Sunday.
The guesthouse owner in old Fez presented a contradictory testimony to the German tourist’s allegation and stressed his innocence to the police of the rape crime levelled at him for blackmail.
The accused owner asserted that he didn’t invite her into his tourist property, but she called him Saturday and told him that she arrived in Fez and would like to show him the details of the modern taste architectural changes she wants to make to the guesthouse.
According to his testimony, she shocked him by arriving in a drunken state, what lead him to pay for her dinner and provide her with a room in his guesthouse to spend the night. He left at around midnight with his daughter Gita who runs the guesthouse.
The suspect denied that he drank alcohol with the German tourist further adding that he did not serve alcoholic drinks to both Muslim and non-Muslim customers at all.
He provided the police with a CD containing text messages from the German citizen’s personal phone telling him that she was with a friend in Fez and that she would drop by in the evening.
The Moroccan suspect also said that his relation to the German tourist started when he received her mother and father at his tourist guesthouse. They had told him they had a daughter who worked as an architect in Barcelona adding that she had contracts with an architect in Meknes. The daughter then visited the guesthouse before the incident and proposed suggestions to the suspect for a European style model in exchange for 4mn centimes.
However, according to the suspect, the German architect returned to Fez on Saturday and asked him to give 2mn centimes in deposit, as she was in desperate need for money. The defendant refused as he had not received the proposed designs yet, following which the German woman filed the malicious complaint.
The German tourist, Valori Franca Gelesh, 32, states that the suspect, A.T. received her in his guesthouse in Al-Rasif neighbourhood in the old city part of Fez as a guest, not as a tourist. They then had dinner at his guesthouse followed by drinks. The next morning, the German tourist alleges she found herself naked in the arms of the suspect, thus accusing him of having sexual intercourse with her against her will whilst she was unconscious, adding that the suspect had given her an overdose of Moroccan wine.
