Officials have been accused of giving compensation 'unlawfully'
Dozens of residents in the west bank, blocked the road to the Valley of Queens and the monastery of the ancient city, in protest for not receiving the lands allocated to them as compensation for their homes
from which they were displaced. They also demanded the resignation of the head of the city of Qurna.
Protesters refused to listen to security officials, stressing that they will continue their protests until their problems are resolved. They accused officials of giving compensation to relatives unlawfully. An independent commission was demanded to oversee the distribution of compensation, and to dismiss the city governor, Brigade Ahmed Moawad, for delaying procedures that allow them to receive their lands.
Police in Luxor succeeded in persuading protesters to open the doors of Karnak Temple, which they had blocked access to, damaging tourism income.
Brigadier Hosni Mohamed Hussein chief of Tourism and Antiquities police in the South, negotiated with protesters promising them work.
