The residents of Sharjah are thrilled and looking forward to the planned Sharjah Waterfront City, which will be the throbbing heart of the Sharjah tourist vision and cover a stretch of 36 kilometres along Sharjah's shores. The cost of the project stands at Dh 9.35 billion.

The idea is to attract 10 million visitors by 2021 concurrently with the UAE celebrations of its 50th National Day.

"The present Al Majaz Waterfront is a great place to relax and enjoy the green. And now we are going to have a lot more of that. The unlimited fun filled activity destination has been designed for both kids and parents. Its sections are filled with a safe and soft floored crèche, hair salon, arts and crafts, reading and computer rooms as well as a special events hall that can be used for parties and tailored activities,” Nada Belarbi, a 19-year-old Lebanese girl, told The Gulf Today. Belarbi said, "the forthcoming city is going to be real fun.”

The construction work for the waterfront city will commence shortly. The ambitious project is composed of 10 islands connected with natural canals and includes villas, residential apartments, offices, hotels, a leisure city, recreation areas, marine clubs and all the required facilities that depict the latest prestigious lifestyles. As a parent I can leave kids in the care of the professional team to learn all sorts of exciting skills ranging from storytelling to yoga and piano lessons,” Shireen Abduallah, a teacher and a mother of four children, told The Gulf Today. "If this is anything to go by then the new city is going to be yet another place we look forward to,” she added.

Shireen said that it's one of a kind family destination, where the whole family enjoys full time and "our children have fun in the Al Alwan Centre and kids play area.” "The proposed destination is simply going to be fantastic,” the teacher said.

Bassem Aboudaya, a 23-year-old Syrian student at the Canadian University, said, "I always enjoy sitting in restaurants and cafes that overlook the Sharjah Fountain. Therefore, I really expect the new place to be hugely absorbing.”

"Waves of fun always come across Al Majaz Waterfront with some of the most spectacular events and attractions, including daring water sports by international teams, the UIM Formula 1 H20 World Power boat Championship, and the Sharjah Grand Prix, the new city will only be enhancing them,” Aboudaya added.
