Eco-tourism in Sweida can contribute to increasing the number of tourists due to its potential and capabilities that can be invested in the tourism industry to serve the national economy benefiting from
the fresh air and the huge forests in the province, in addition to the geographical, historical and biological diversity.
Director of Sweida Tourism Department, Jihad Abu Zaki said that eco-tourism has several dimensions such as the economic dimension which is considered an important source for income, in addition to the environmental dimension which preserves the environment and the environmental and cultural balance.
He indicated that Sweida City has a lot of capabilities which serve the eco-tourism such as the nature reserves, forests, valleys and dormant craters, in addition to the eco-museum represented in the apple and grape farms expanding over wide area in Sweida.
He added that the biological diversity constitutes a significant part of the unique natural scene in Sweida where evergreen forests grow over thousands of the dunums as they embrace wild trees whose age in some cases exceed two hundred years.
The wild forests make the air fresh and healthy throughout the year and they are visited by a large number of the people who are seeking treatment of the respiratory and dermatologic diseases.
The snow in Dahir al-Jabal area, the Stars and Planets Monitoring Center in al-Lajat area and the Badia (semi-desert) are very important tourist destinations in Sweida.
Sweida enjoys other tourist potential such as the biological factors including the diverse plants, flowers and trees, in addition to the entertainment and sport factors as many sports can be practiced in the province.
Abu Zaki referred to a group of the factors that are invested in the eco-tourism such as the ancient mud-made houses which have preserved the traditional living conditions, in addition to the festivals, ceremonies and exhibitions held in the province.
