The "Pink Bite", organised by the Pink Caravan yesterday at Galleries Lafayette in Dubai Mall, broke the record of the highest price paid for a burger at Dh25,960 (US$7,000) during an auction held to raise funds for the Pink Caravan.
The burger was prepared by Pink Caravan ambassador Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, in support of the Pink Caravan's aim to spread the message about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
The Higher Organising Committee of the Pink Caravan announced that the charity auction raised Dh72, 180.
Pink Caravan ambassadors were divided into three teams to prepare burgers and sell them at the highest price during the 45-mitnute auction. The previous most expensive burger in the world was sold for US$5,000 in Las Vegas.
Taking part in the Pink Bite event were Pink Caravan ambassadors, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, and his team along with his sons, Sheikh Abdullah and Sheikh Sultan, as well as TV presenters Saoud Al Kaabi and Ameera Al Fadl.
The event was held in the presence of Ameera BinKaram, President of the Board of Trustees and Founding Member of the Friends of Cancer Patients charity (FoCP), Reem BinKaram, Head of the Pink Caravan Event Committee, and Pink Caravan Ambassador Marwan Jassim Al Serkal, CEO of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), in addition to a number of media figures, artists and social figures and dignitaries.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani's team raised Dh47, 520, including the sale of the world's most expensive burger, while the team of TV presenter Saoud Al Kaabi and artist Fayez Al Saeed managed to collect Dh13,000. TV presenter Ameera Al Fadl along with her team came up with burgers that were sold for Dh11, 660 -with all the money raised from the burger auction going to the Pink Caravan.
Ameera BinKaram, President of the Board of Trustees and Founding Member of FoCP and Head of the Higher Organising Committee, expressed her delight at the level of support the Pink Caravan has received. She said, "I am proud of Pink Caravan ambassadors who have always proved their supportive stand by the Pink Caravan to enable it to achieve its goals. We have succeeded once again in delivering our message in supporting the Pink Caravan's mission and highlighting breast cancer in a fun and entertaining manner during the Pink Bite event whose revenues will go to the Pink Caravan Ride, to raise awareness about early detection of breast cancer."
She added, "The significant support from UAE leaders and various segments of society is the reason behind the success of the Pink Caravan and what it is today, which will take the charity to a new and qualitative phase to better serve the nation and the Emirati community ".

The Pink Caravan will continue its nation-wide tour, after it moved from the Ras Al Khaimah Women's Higher Colleges of Technology, passing through Saqr Hospital, Manar Mall, and will conclude its ride in front of the Cove Rotana Resort in Ras al Khaimah, travelling 28km on day four of the ride, bringing the total distance travelled by the riders to 96.5 km.
Mobile clinics at Saif Bin Ghobash, Saqr Hospital and Shaam Hospital offered medical examinations and breast cancer screenings to 690 people, including 489 women and 201 men, with Emiratis constituting 176 persons, compared to 514 expatriates. A total of 212 cases were referred for further mammogram screenings.
This brings the total number of screened people to 2,481, including 577 men and 1,904 women.
At Shaam Hospital, Pink Caravan's medical team of doctors, nurses and health counsellors received a warm welcome where Hospital Manager Ahmed Ali Al Mahboubi presented a certificate of appreciation to the Pink Caravan on behalf of the administration of the hospital in a show of appreciation of recognition and appreciation of their efforts.
He said, "This is the 4th year we have participated in the Pink Caravan Ride, which aims to serve the region and educate the public. I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of hospitals that have cooperated in the distribution of doctors and nurses to facilitate medical check-ups and examinations. The hospital's clinics this year saw impressive response by men to get breast cancer early detection screenings, signifying the effectiveness of the Pink Caravan in raising awareness and education about breast cancer."
The Pink Caravan will start its journey on Saturday's from Ajman Kempinski Hotel, Ajman at 9am, passing through Sharjah ladies Club, and the Central Market and Al Majaz Waterfront, and will arrive at Al Qasba at 5:30pm, travelling 32.9 km. Mobile clinics will open its doors to applicants on Saturday from 9am to 7pm at Mizher Healthcare Centre, Ousha Bint Al Hussein Cultural Centre in Dubai and Sharjah Charity Society.
