Audi 2Lip
Futuristic concept cars take into consideration a whole host of issues like energy conservation, high performance and aesthetics. This is especially needed in view of depleting resources and environmental pollution,
But isn’t everyday that a designer concerns himself with providing the elderly accessibility to such vehicles. So it comes as a breath of fresh air that Davide Varenna, a student of Germany’s Master of Transportation Design, has factored this feature into his creation called the Audi 2Lip.Designed for the year 2050, the Audi 2Lip is a car that caters to people over 60 years of age and to younger audiences as well. Varenna has placed extra focus on offering the elderly easy access to the vehicle’s cabin. Taking the blossoming of flowers as his inspiration, the designer has conceived of a cabin that opens so that users can walk in without difficulty. The front of the vehicle will be made from transparent shape memory alloys that opens like a blooming flower. To make it even easier to get in, a big platform slides down so senior citizens can walk up. This feature will also serve as an easy access point for disabled people. Once seated inside, the front closes gently.
Varenna has integrated the mechanical aspects of the vehicle in the large rear wheels, making the interior of the Audi 2Lip extremely spacious. This means that aside from having plenty of leg room, there will be ample space for storage.
The Audi 2Lip could encourage the elderly to invest in automobiles owing to its easy accessibility and comfort. While most modern cars are equipped with state-of-the-art features including safety, not many take into account the simple issue of access. No specifications on performance have been given so we’ll either have to come up with our own assumptions or wait for Varenna to reveal the details.
