Maspero was first commissioned by President Nasser in 1959 Cairo’s iconic state media organisation, found in the Maspero building, will be closed down and operations moved to Media Production City (MPC), according to an exclusive by Egypt’s al-Watan newspaper .On Friday Arabstoday reported on secret documents confirming negotiations centred on the sale of the Nile-front Maspero building, with production and broadcast operations moved to new premises at MPC at an undisclosed date.
Sources have confirmed back-room deals to sell the building, which was first commissioned by former President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1959, becoming the first state-run broadcasting organisation in the Arab world and Africa.
The move will take place in gradual stages, sources revealed.
