Cairo - Arab Today

The Tunisian National Union of Journalists (SNJT) condemned the violations committed against Arab journalists especially in Egypt and called on the Federation Of Arab Journalists to ensure freedom of press in the Arab world.

SNJT President Neji B'ghouri was denied visa entry to Egypt to take part in the Federation of Arab Journalists’ General Secretariat meeting. He said that
“Egypt is one of the most hostile countries to freedom of press in the region,”
He, in this respect, called on participants at this meeting to support the International Federation of Journalists President Philipe Leruth’s call to the President of General Union of Arab Journalists to work to secure the release of Egyptian journalist Mahmoud Hussein, held in Egyptian prisons since last December.

The SNJT further reiterated its call to General Union of Arab Journalists to denounce the continued imprisonment of Egyptian journalists who are “victims of the systematic repression policy adopted by the current Egyptian regime.”

“Regional authorities and organizations are called, now more than ever, to take strong measures to end these practices,” the message reads.

The SNJT is committed to using every means to spare no effort to defend the press and journalists in Egypt and the Arab world.
