Angelina Jolie is a regular visitor to Afghanistan
American actress Angelina Jolie will spend proceeds of a jewellery line going on sale later this week to develop her girls school in Afghanistan, entertainment channel E! has reported.
Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), has been funding the primary school in an area outside Kabul with a high refugee population since November.
According to E!, the school educates 200-300 girls, and has a plaque acknowledging Jolie's contribution. Jolie also funds another girls school in eastern Afghanistan that opened in 2010.
E! said that Jolie plans to pay for more schools by selling a "Style of Jolie" jewellery line that she helped create with jewellery maker Robert Procop.
American celebrities Oprah Winfrey and Madonna have courted controversy by funding the building of schools in South Africa and Malawi.
Madonna's project was attacked for the costs and mismanagement, while a staff member at Winfrey's school was arrested on charges of assault and abuse of students.
