Tunis – Hayet al-Ghanami

Informed sources told Arabs Today that a driving teacher, who supervising driving licenses, was arrested for manipulating theoretical examinations as well as driving exams. According to the available data, the teacher who was arrested revealed a major network works with him in this field, where the teacher agrees with another people to perform the theoretical examinations instead of the candidates who are abroad.

Our private source said that the investigations included 18 people in Ariana and Manouba. They are brokers, teachers and owners of driving schools. He assured us that there are women involved in this case. According to the source, a woman was arrested and investigation is still underway.

Manipulation and fraud in the driving license examinations is neither new nor innovative, but the methods are different and multiple. The student who wants to obtain a driver's license is no longer interested in driving and acquiring the skills of dealing with the car, but his only concern is to obtain a driving license at all costs and then thinking about learning the mechanics of driving.

Furthermore, some of the owners of driving education institutions are asking directly from some candidates to pay a specific amount of up to about 900 dinars as a condition to enable them to obtain licenses quickly and without problems. The sector of driving education has become full of bribery, favoritism, and the sale of licenses without the requirement of efficiency and the right to obtain these licenses.

It is obvious that there is a sale and purchase in driving licenses. The phenomenon has become familiar due to its aggravation and its obvious spread. There are also some driving education institutions known to sell licenses for a certain amount of money.

The source added that the manipulation does not stop at the mere purchase and sale of driving licenses, but in Tunisia there are driving licenses coming from Algeria, Libya and other neighboring countries, noting that most of these licenses are forged.

"These licenses coming from Algeria and Libya are not only sold in driving schools but also among citizens, "the source said, adding that some of them said that the high cost of driving hours is the reason why some resort to bribery, cronyism and the illegal methods.
