University of Wollongong's campus in Dubai
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has been ranked amongst the top 25 young universities in the world under the QS University Rankings system.
UOW was placed in 24th position in
the 2013 QS Top 50 under 50, which ranks the best universities across the globe under the age of 50.
UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings hailed the ranking, which has improved by six places since last year, moving the university into the top 25. Professor Wellings said UOW already had an enviable record of achievement reflected in its position in the top 2% of universities worldwide.
This ranking is also a testament to the quality of education offered by the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), which bases its degree programmes on the equivalent Australian curriculum.
UOWD was established by UOW 20 ago and the programmes delivered at the Dubai campus reflect the academic standards of the Australian institution. All degrees offered by UOWD are reviewed by the Australian Government's Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency as part of their audit of UOW, and UOWD graduates have the option to exchange their degree for a UOW testament after successfully completing a programme of study in Dubai.
Professor Wellings commented, "This is an important indicator that UOW is moving in the right direction. We have been judged to be performing very well in the face of strong global competition from new universities, particularly in China, Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore."
