The Federal Electricity and Water Authority, FEWA, is planning to create a series of solar power stations with a capacity of 100 MW in various northern parts of the country at a cost of Dh 500 million.
Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, FEWA's Director-General, stressed the authority's keenness to achieve its vision to provide the best electricity and water services, contribute to sustainable development and improve the standard of living by 2021.
In an interview with Emirates News Agency, WAM, he said that a new project for solar power plants will be established in the northern parts of the country under the supervision of FEWA and with the partnership of the private sector, noting that the project will begin during the current year.
He added that the project aims to use clean energy through solar power, adding that according to the 2021 national agenda, work on providing 24% of energy used will be implemented, pointing out that work is under process on the adoption of a comprehensive study of the project, to put it out to tender in cooperation with the private sector.
Mr Saleh explained that the project aims to reduce carbon emissions as well as reducing the cost of energy production, and thus contributing to building an integrated sound environment in all regions of the country, which are subject to the supervision of the Federal Authority and work within the strategic and future visions of the national leadership.
