Saeed Eid Al Ghafli
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, Chairman of the Executive Office, has confirmed that the Government of Abu Dhabi is determined, according to adopted plans, to follow the wise leadership’s guidance seeking to reinforce health services and facilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and to provide the best available services, treatments and technologies.

He made this statement during a visit to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, where he was joined by Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili, Chairman of the Health Authority, Saif Fadhel Al Hamli, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Abu Dhabi General Services Company, Musanada, Matar Ghumran Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, SEHA, a number of high level officials, and the project work teams.

During his visit, he was briefed on the project, which was designed according to world-class standards and specifications for the construction of advanced medical facilities, and on the project’s progress, whereby currently 85 percent of the work is complete.

The Chairman of the Executive Office also toured parts of the Medical City, starting with the first block dedicated to the mother and baby unit, the neonatal intensive care unit, and children’s operating theatres. He then visited the second and third blocks where he inspected patient wards, surgical wards, and the intensive care and emergency department.

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is built over an area of 300,000 m2 and cost AED4 billion. It includes 732 beds, two main wards, 36 VIP wards, and a mostly covered car park with a capacity of 1,610 cars.

Once completed, the facility will be considered one of the biggest medical units dedicated to intensive care in the region, and an excellent centre for the treatment of emergencies and accidents. It will also include neonatal departments as well as a medical research centre and 132 beds for intensive care cases, including an intensive care unit for premature babies. The city will also have an advanced injuries centre, 18 operating rooms, a traditional and premature birth department, and many other varied medical specialisations.

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City will be made-up of several buildings and will include two helicopter pads and large green spaces specifically designed to provide comfort and calm in an ideal environment for recovery.

The city will attract local and international experts and will provide opportunities for national medical professionals, with a recruitment capacity of over 400 medical staff and 1,800 nursing staff.

It is located in Al Mafraq in the City of Abu Dhabi, a location at the crossroads of Abu Dhabi Island, the Central Region and the Western Region. It is close to residential areas such as Khalifa City, Shakhbout City and Mohammed bin Zayed City.
