Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and Head of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Abu Dhabi, has hailed the efforts of team members that recently participated in the nuclear emergency readiness exercises at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra region.
The readiness exercises included the virtual tackling of potential scenarios in nuclear power plants that require the necessity of field intervention to ensure the safety of nuclear facilities and the protection of employees. It also includes security and medical efforts aimed at securing the nuclear facilities and its external environment, as well as professional media coverage of such conditions to address the associated rumours with similar incidents that require verification and obtaining correct information from reliable sources.
Major General Al Rumaithi reviewed the efforts of field intervention in nuclear emergency cases, including the technical procedures in the reception centres, nuclear cleaning operations and the monitoring of medical readiness in Al Ruwais Hospital, to address similar emergency cases as per international standards of operational requirements for nuclear power plants.
The Nuclear Emergency System includes several national departments and institutions led by the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Abu Dhabi, in coordination with Nawah Energy Company. Measuring the general capacities of intervention in emergency cases is part of the required conditions to obtain the nuclear power generation practising licence.
The UAE's wise leadership is focusing significant attention on this national issue, as it is of great importance for the future of the nation's energy supplies.
