The legendary Alain Robert, a French skyscraper climber nicknamed "The Spiderman", will climb Doha's tallest building on April 12. He will tackle the 300-metre tall Torch Doha Hotel Tower without a safety rope and harness, it was announced on Monday. Robert's production team will be shooting the Torch ascent as part of Alain's life documentary in 3D, planned to be broadcast as a movie in cinemas around the world. Robert said: "I feel like a child and I finally want to open my present: I want to climb The Torch." Robert has scaled over 85 giant structures around the globe, most of which he has ascended using only with his bare hands and climbing shoes. Well-known for climbing unassisted, the 50-year-old has conquered more than 70 skyscrapers. In February 2003, he climbed the 200m National Bank of Abu Dhabi, with an audience of about 100,000 individuals. Last year Robert climbed the iconic Burj Khalifa - the highest structure in the world - in six hours, 14 minutes and 55 seconds. Gerhard Foltin, the Torch Doha general manager, said: "We are very excited to welcome the sensational Alain Robert. It will be great to watch him climbing Doha's highest structure. Alain is unique and wherever he goes, he entertains his audience. A must - watch."
