UN Secretary-General Ban ki Moon called upon Syrian parties, opposition and regime, to have a truce during Ramadan. He relayed in a letter "his congratulations and best wishes to all Muslims in the world on the occasion of the start of Ramadan (the Holy month)". After talking about the Islamic traditions in which Muslims used to hold truce if clashes persisted during the Holy month, he called upon "all parties in Syria to respect this religious duty, at least." Ban Ki Moon wished upon all fighting parties to stop bloodshed and present this peace month as collective forgiveness for the Syrian people.
