Minister of Human Rights and Social Development Dr Fatima Mohammed Al Balushi today received Bill O’Neil from the Social Science Research Council in New York, USA. Dr Al Balushi affirmed during the meeting the importance of the Centre for Research and Studies especially related to scientific studies in the field of social affairs and community development. The Minister briefed O’Neil with the various initiatives and human rights and social development projects being implemented by the ministry during the past phase and its recent ones. She also highlighted the national reconciliation campaign “one unity” affirming that it was a result of the report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) on the realities of what happened in the months of February and March of last year. The Minister also spoke about the national fund for compensating those affected from the previous incidents highlighting the fact that the kingdom was also keen towards make use of the experience of friendly countries with regards to compensation and achieving reconciliation. For his part O’Neil briefed the minister on the most prominent objectives and projects of the council and its consultation and advise to the UN.
