Leader of the National Liberation and Justice Party and former Chairman of Darfur Regional Authority, Dr. Tigani Al-Sessi, has blessed the decision on collection of weapons in Darfur states from the hands of citizens.
Interviewed by SUNA, Dr. Al-Sessi said that his party has been the first to present an initiative and to demand the collection of the illegally possessed arms.
He indicated that the abundant illegally obtained weapons poses a threat not for Darfur alone, but for the whole country, referring to the phenomenon of weapons smuggling from neighboring countries, especially Libya and the Central African Republic, a matter that rendered Darfur states as a big market of weapons.
Dr. Al-Sessi said that his party was the first to draw up a road-map, in cooperation with Darfur Regional Authority and the Commission for Disarmament, Demobilization, for confiscation of the weapons possessed by the citizens.
He pointed out that the collection of weapons shall be accompanied by a media campaign and the participation of the native administration and the Civil Defence, adding that the arms' collection process shall be carried out in coordination with the Central African Republic and Chad toward avoiding the smuggling of weapons.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Sessi has pointed to contacts being made with a number of countries, top of them is the United States, to speed up the lifting of sanctions from Sudan
He expressed his optimism that the lifting of sanctions from Sudan will take place shortly, calling on the officials to allow the political parties to use their relations for the lifting of blockade imposed on the country.
