MP Ali Fayyad, a member of Loyalty to the Resistance Parliamentary bloc, said during a reforestation event in south Lebanon that his political team insists on a fully proportional electoral law for "patriotic reasons."
The MP noted that legislative elections must be based on proportionality so that political powers would be represented in accordance with their "actual size." He went on to say that the problem certain factions have with such a law was a political and partisan one rather than confessional in nature.
"At a time when we adhere to the essence of proportionality, we also do not mind discussing other mechanisms of diluted proportionality," said Fayyad.
"However, we will never agree to an empty proportional law that is devoid of function and purpose."
