The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, affirmed the importance of accelerating the response to the political, economic and humanitarian crisis in the Syrian Arab Republic and enhancing cooperation between the major countries concerned to achieve a comprehensive political settlement of the Syrian crisis based on Security Council resolution 2254 and Geneva Statement of the Year 2012, and respect the will of the Syrian people to return Syria to the path of security and stability.
This came during the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the high-level international meeting on Syria, which was held at the initiative of the European Union on the sidelines of the seventy-second session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Minister praised the outcome of the Astana talks, affirming the need for all parties to abide by them and not to allow any party to exploit them in order to serve expansionist ambitions or to support the militias, stressing the need to preserve the unity of Syria.
Shaikh Khalid pointed out that the disaster facing the brotherly Syrian people is the worst humanitarian disaster since the Second World War, affirming that the Kingdom of Bahrain has been and will remain committed through the Royal Charity Organization to provide various forms of help and support to the people of Syria.
The Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all countries hosting large numbers of the Syrian brothers and providing relief and social services to them, calling on the international community to give due support to countries that bear the brunt of hosting the Syrian brothers and provide them with aid and relief.
