H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, today visited Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, ADSW 2018, at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ADNEC.
During his tour, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed, while accompanied by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, inspected several national and international pavilions and learned about the latest developments in renewable energy technology, as well as new products, projects and exhibited items.
Sheikh Hamed also reviewed the plans of government and private companies and organisations to produce energy and achieve sustainability, as well as their key development programmes and plans and their future energy vision, especially those related to sustainability and environmental protection.
The tour included a visit to the platform of Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, where he reviewed the "Clicks" initiative, which encourages youth innovation in sustainability. Sheikh Hamed also visited the pavilion of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi and reviewed the specifications of an electric-powered bus, as well as the pavilion of the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA, where he reviewed their regulations related to the energy consumption of household appliances.
Sheikh Hamed then visited the Masdar platform, which exhibited a series of research projects on sustainability and related innovations. He also visited the pavilions of Saudi Arabia, Japan and Switzerland. He also visited the Tarsheed pavilion at the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, ADWEA, platform, and learned about the required steps to install solar panels on the rooves of government, residential, commercial and industrial buildings, and how to connect them to the electricity network.
Sheikh Hamed highlighted the importance of helping citizens and creating a process to help them adopt this initiative and benefit from solar energy, to promote investment in clean energy, ensure the sustainability of natural resources, and rationalise the use of energy. He also reviewed a major project to store high-quality desalinated water, which was announced during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
He went on to say that the UAE aims, via holding this international forum, to create a specialist international platform for countries and global companies to exchange expertise and research, as well as to create innovative solutions and new ideas for the renewable energy sector, noting that the country has reached a key stage in adopting many local and international ideas and projects, to benefit from renewable energy technologies.
