Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, late Saturday attended the graduation ceremony of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hussein, after completing his university degree in International History at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
The Crown Prince, who is the eldest son of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, was born in Amman on the 28th of June 1994. The Prince was named Crown Prince by a Royal Decree on the 2nd of July 2009.
The Crown Prince launched a number of initiatives including Haqiq (Achieve), a youth based initiative to advocate for volunteerism in the country and Qusai initiative, which aims at training sports therapists in Basic Life Support and First Aid.
The "Hearing Without Borders" is another Initiative, launched by HRH to decrease the number of deaf children by providing them with cochlear implants and specialized education so that they can attend regular schools.
Stemming from HRH belief in the importance of developing youths skills and their scientific and Academic knowledge, two agreements focusing on water, power and environment sectors were signed with the USA Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) (NASA).
The cooperation between Jordan and NASA encompasses internships for Jordanians interested in pursuing a career in technology as well as a joint NASA /Jordanian team collaborating on building and programming a Nano satellite such as a Cubesat. This initiative seeks to inspire young Jordanian engineers, and provides a great boost to their careers as well as opportunities for further academic training. It also supports Jordan’s efforts at building a cadre of highly qualified professionals in the technology and research sectors.
His Highness also launched the "Innovation Solution Initiative" , which serves as a platform to embrace young people innovative ideas in the Kingdom and encourage them to achieve more creativity and innovation.
A decision was made to establish Prince Hussein Bin Abdullah II Technical University to be an academic platform that seeks to improve the quality of technical education in the country, through the development of clear and effective standards in line with the advanced academic programs.
In 2015, Crown Prince Foundation was established to offer a platform that will support initiatives by Jordanian youths in the social, cultural and know-how fields.
On 23 April 2015, and at the age of 20, HRH chaired a session of the Security Council on "The Role of Youth in Countering Violent Extremism and Promoting Peace," to be the youngest person to ever preside over the Security Council.
Based on his Highness call in the UN, Jordan hosted the First International Conference on "The Role of Youth in Making Sustainable Peace", in partnership with the UN Security council.
During the two-day conference,The Amman Youth Declaration which represents a roadmap for youth inclusion in archiving peace and security, was launched. The declaration aimed at helping shape a new international agenda on youth, peace and security.
In response to HRH call to engage young people and boost their contributions to peacemaking, the UN Security Council adopted the 2250 resolution on youth, peace and security, which, for the first time in its history, focuses entirely on the role of young men and women in peace building and countering violent extremism.
HRH the Crown Prince, who holds the rank of second lieutenant in the Jordan Armed Forces, completed his high school education at King’s Academy in Jordan and enjoys reading, sports especially football as well as playing chess.
