Algeria reservations about granting Syrian opposition seats at Arab League, during Doha Summit are based on the organization charter, which provides for that only states can have seats, Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci declared Monday in Algiers. "These reservations have been expressed within the Arab League, where the Charter provides for in its article 8, that it’s a League of States which must have respect for each others," the minister told the national radio. In this regard, Algeria, in compliance with the Charter, cannot accompany an initiative aiming at giving to an entity which is not a State, the seat of an Arab League member state. "Algeria has been among the countries which emphasized the need for compliance with the Charter. If this old Charter is set to be amended, a debate will be staged then on the content of the new Charter." On a question on Algeria position about the situation in Syria, he said that "Algeria, which tends to be respected as State, cannot interfere in the internal affairs of other States. We cannot decide for Syrians. They have to do it on their own."
