H.E. Mr. Fumio Iwai, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Iraq, attended the completion ceremony of Japanese ODA loan project, “Communications Network Development Project for Major Cities”, held at the Ministry of Communication.

This project, signed in 2012, is designed to bring new services such as High-speed Internet connection of maximum 5Mbps transmission speed, IP phone, and video transmission to 150,000 households residing in Baghdad by the end of May 2017.

Ambassador Iwai reiterated Japan’s commitment in contributing to development of Iraq in his speech, introducing the completed projects related to port, water supply, electricity, fertilizer, and irrigation. Ambassador Iwai also emphasized that every effort would come to nothing unless the people and Government of Iraq take proper actions to fulfill its responsibilities.

Japan has extended its ODA loan totaling USD 5.9 billion for rehabilitation of infrastructure in the fields of electricity, water/sewerage and oil/gas as well as USD 330 million through grant assistance for humanitarian and stabilization in Iraq under the current crises that Iraq copes with.
