Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif arrived at Mehrabad Airport on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

Upon arrival, the Pakistani high-ranking officials were warmly welcomed by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan.

While in Tehran, Nawaz Sharif is slated to meet with President Hassan Rouhani and First Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri.

The Pakistani premier is also scheduled to officially invite President Rouhani to pay a visit to Pakistan in the near future.

Nawaz Sharif left Islamabad for Riyadh on Monday on a two-leg tour to Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The visits aim at mediating between Iran and Saudi Arabia over the recent political crisis occurred between the two countries

The Pakistani prime minister and chief of Army Staff have met with the Saudi King Salman in Riyadh.

Sharif is accompanied by a high-ranking delegation including Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.

Reports said that Pakistani officials have planned to mediate decrease of tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran on January 3 following Tehran's condemnation of the kingdom's execution of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

Russia as well as several European and regional countries have expressed readiness to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Iran says it will not allow Saudi Arabia’s provocations to adversely affect ongoing efforts aimed at resolving the crisis in Syria and Yemen.
