Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Friday designated Social Democrat Sorin Grindeanu as the prime minister.
Grindeanu, 34, was nominated by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and their junior partners, the liberal ALDE party, in the wake of their triumph at December 11 parliamentary elections, dpa cited the Mediafax news agency report .
A former telecommunications minister, Grindenau was the PSD's second nomination. On Tuesday Iohannis, without explaining why, turned down Sevil Shhaideh, a former regional development minister. She would have become Romania's first woman and first Muslim prime minister.
