H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued Emiri Decree No. 96 of 2016, regarding the establishment and organisation of the Academy of the Arabic Language in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The Decree states that the Academy of the Arabic Language in the Emirate of Sharjah will be established with independent legal status and the legal capacity necessary to achieve its objectives. The main headquarters of the academy will be in Sharjah and after a resolution from the Sharjah Ruler, it may set up branches outside the emirate.
According to the Decree, the academy will have a number of objectives which basically relate to preserving and developing the Arabic language to keep pace with the requirements of science, literature, arts and renewable developments of the world, among others.
According to the Decree, membership of the academy will be either full operational membership or honorary membership.
The complex will have a Board of Trustees which represents the higher authority which will be set up after a Resolution from the Sharjah Ruler as the Higher Chairman of the academy. The Board of Trustees will have appropriate authority.
The Board will meet once a year at least at the invitation of the Chairman and he may hold extraordinary meetings whenever needed. The Secretariat-General will be chaired by a Secretary-General after an administrative Resolution and will have appropriate authority.
The Decree will be effective from the date of issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
