H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his wife Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chair of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, on Sunday opened the third Sharjah International Children's Film Festival.
The first-of-its-kind in the region, the annual festival is organised by FUNN, a Sharjah-based foundation, to improve children's and teens' understanding of the movie industry and promote their awareness of the techniques used in the industry, and unleash and nurture their creative talents.
During the opening ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Sultan honoured the winners of the festival's awards.
The SICFF awards cover six categories: Best Child-Made Film, Best Emirati Short Film, Best GCC Short Film, Best Animation Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary Film, and Best Feature Film.
Films from twenty countries including the UAE are competing for the SICFF awards at the festival which runs till 23rd October.
The Sharjah-based FUNN foundation is dedicated to promoting media arts for and among children and youth in the UAE.
