H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, praised the great role played by his wife and the President and Founder of Friends of Cancer Patients Society, Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, in supporting cancer research institutions and centres in the Arab Republic of Egypt and across the world.

This was stated during a speech delivered by Sheikh Sultan at the National Institute of Oncology’s theatre auditorium in Cairo, on Monday, in front of a large gathering of Egyptian officials, researchers, cancer therapists, members of the teaching and administrative bodies of the institute and representatives of the media, along with Dr. Mohamed Osman Al-Khosht, President of Cairo University, and Dr. Mohammed Latif, Dean of the National Institute of Oncology.

Sheikh Sultan said that "the place, where we are here now, does not allow words to come out, it comes in the form of groans, because of the pain that has afflicted many, including children who are behind these walls waiting for a glimmer of light and a gesture of hope to restore their health and well-being, by God’s grace."

He further added that Sheikha Jawaher is working hard to find that light and hope. She is the President and Founder of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society, the Union for International Cancer Control’s, UICC, International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration, and the International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC.

"In the UK, there is Francis Crick Institute. It is the largest medical and biological research institute in Europe and the most important in the world; it conducts researches and studies related to cancer in general and lung cancer in particular. Sheikha Jawaher contributed to this institute, and because of this contribution, the institution has placed a plate in front of its building. It reads, ‘Sheikha Jawaher contributed to the construction of this Institute.’ Not only this, but the institution also honoured Sharjah by allocating part of the institute under the name of Sharjah Labs.

"We will be with Egypt with all our strength, whether by money or by our effort, and we will follow this blessed process. All we need from you is to work and the patience and to follow the light that will lead us to the right path, and the light that we have to follow, which will be presented to us by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt," he added.

After that, Dr. Al-Khosht delivered a speech in which he said, "It is my honour and my pleasure to be in this meeting with this man, the Ruler of Sharjah, the intellectual, with whom we have strong ties and bridges."

He added that the donations of Sheikh Sultan and Sheikha Jawaher have been awarded not only to the National Institution of Oncology, but to a number of faculties of Cairo University and many other Egyptian educational and social institutes.

Dr. Latif also delivered a speech in which he welcomed the Ruler of Sharjah and praised the efforts of Sheikha Jawaher in supporting the institute and providing free treatments to patients, especially children.

Also present on the occasion were Juma Mubarak Al-Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt; Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Director of the Sharjah Department of Protocol and Guesthouses; Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Media Corporation, and Dr. Amr Abdel Hamid, Director of the Sharjah Research Academy.
