President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended on Thursday a ceremony marking the inauguration of the southern navy units in the Red Sea governorate city of Safaga.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Defense Minister Sedky Sobhy attended the ceremony alongside a number of ministers and top officials.

The military band played the national anthem upon Sisi's arrival, then the ceremony started with reciting some verses of Qur'an.
Navy Commander Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed said Egypt has become the first state in the Middle East region to possess two top notch plane carriers.

He referred to the two Mistral-class Helicopter Carrier which Egypt got from France over the past months.

He hailed Sisi's attendance of the ceremony, noting that the navy underwent all-out developments since Sisi took the helm.

He added that Egypt would also receive Gowind-class corvette soon.

He added that there are plans to get three more corvettes.

At the end of his speech, Saeed gave the president a souvenir in appreciation of his efforts.
Chief of Staff of the second naval brigade Colonel Hossam Mohamed Hussein posted President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the progress realized so far in honing the skills of the naval forces.

He underlined that the goal of all developments is gearing up forces to be qualified to carry out the mission to be entitled to them.
At the end of the ceremony, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi took a photo with naval forces as well as Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Defense Minister Sedky Sobhy and a cluster of Armed Forces top brass.
