Donald Trump
Washington - Arab Today

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has called for "extreme vetting" of any Muslims who want to enter the United States, strengthening his earlier calls to ban Muslim immigrants into the country.

Trump said any Muslim immigrant or even visitor must be screened for "any hostile attitude towards our country or its principles, or who believed sharia law should supplant American law".

Trump said that "those who did not believe in our Constitution or who support bigotry and hatred will not be admitted for immigration into our country". "In the Cold War," he went on, "we had an ideological screening test. The time is overdue to develop a new screening test for the threats we face today. .?.?. I call it extreme, extreme vetting," he added.

Trump said he'd temporarily suspend immigration from countries that support terrorism.

In his speech delivered in Ohio, Trump also called for joining with Russia and any country that wants to destroy the ISIS. "My administration will aggressively pursue joint and coalition military operations to crush and destroy ISIS," Trump said. "International cooperation to cut off their funding, expanded intelligence sharing and cyberwarfare to disrupt and disable their propaganda and recruiting .?.?. It’s got to be stopped".

The Republican candidate said he would continue two controversial Obama policies: keeping the detention center open in Guantanamo and carrying on with drone strikes to fight terrorism, principally in the Middle East. He has previously said he would expand torture programs as a way to fight terrorism.

But to soften his hardline position on Islam, which caused an outcry around the world, Trump said he'd create "a commission on radical Islam which will include reformist voices in the Muslim community who will hopefully work with us".

He said: "We want to build bridges and erase divisions." The commission would "identify and explain to the American public the core convictions and beliefs of radical Islam" and develop "new protocols" for police to combat terrorism at home.

Trump said he would also "call for an international conference" to "halt the spread of radical Islam".
