Sprouts Farmers Market recalled organic black peppercorns sold under its brand name from all of its stores and in a separate recall, Frontier Natural Products Co-op recalled several of its products manufactured with organic black peppercorns -- both due to possible Salmonella. Sprouts Farmers Market said the peppercorns have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella. The recalled Organic Black Peppercorns were distributed to Sprouts Farmers Market stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah. No illnesses have been reported to date. The recall was initiated after routine government testing found the presence of salmonella in one lot of Organic Black Peppercorns. As an extra precautionary measure, the company voluntarily recalled 16-ounce Frontier Organic Whole Black Peppercorns, 2.12-ounce Sprouts Farmers Market Organic Black Peppercorns and 2.65-ounce Simply Organic Whole Black Peppercorns. Customers are urged not to use or consume these products and return them to any Sprouts Farmers Market for a refund. Consumers can ask questions at 1-480-814-8016 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PDT. In a separate recall, Frontier Natural Products Co-op recalled several of its products manufactured with organic black peppercorns sold under its Frontier and Simply Organic brands, Whole Foods Market 365 Everyday Value, and others due to potential salmonella contamination. To date, no illnesses were linked with these products. The product in question was steam pasteurized at the source and tested negative for salmonella by Frontier Natural Products Co-op, but there is a small risk salmonella might still be present based on a positive, random test that was recently conducted, the company said. Frontier said it was initiating added precautions to the safety of the supply chain to mitigate any future occurrence. Recalled products were sold in all 50 states and in some parts of Canada to distributors, retailers and consumers. A complete list of the recalled products is at: www.frontiercoop.com/recall. Consumers should not consume these products and call 1-800-669-3275 Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT with any questions or to inquire about replacement or reimbursement.
