Twenty people were admitted to the Karak Government Hospital on Saturday after falling ill with symptoms of diarrhea and acute abdominal pain in a case that seemingly involved mass food poisoning, according to the hospital's director.
Dr. Ali Hamaideh said 16 of the patients had been discharged after receiving the necessary care, but four children remained under observation though they were in a good condition.
Karak health department director, Zakaria Nawaiseh, said those affected consumed food that was past its expiry date which led to food poisoning, adding that samples had been taken for laboratory tests to determine the cause.
