At least four persons have died of an unknown disease at Rukaramu in the commune of Mutimbuzi, in the province of Bujumbura Rural, some 12 km west of the Burundian capital of Bujumbura, medical sources at Rukaramu Health Center told Xinhua by phone on Friday.
"We started to receive patients vomiting and suffering from diarrhea since the beginning of this week. Four of them have already died at the health center. We have sent samples for testing in modern laboratories in the capital Bujumbura, but results are yet out," said Goreth Minani, head of Rukaramu Health Center.
She indicated that residents in Rukaramu and villages located near Rukaramu continue to be contaminated by the disease whose origin is still being investigated.
