Algeria will be endowed with 24 university hospitals (CHU) in 2018, said Thursday in Algiers the Director General of the National Agency for the Management of implementation and health facilities equipping (AREES), Lazhar Bounafa.
"Algeria will be endowed with 2018 by 24 university hospitals nationwide which will help to significantly improve the care and quality of care for patients in our country," Bounafa stressed at a workshop on the restructuring of health services in the province of Algiers.
Bounafa announced the launch of the construction works of five university hospitals in the provinces of Tizi Ouzou, Ouargla, Constantine, Tlemcen and Algiers, adding these projects were assigned to foreign companies and the completion is limited at 3 years.
Regarding the 14 existing university hospitals nationwide, Bounafa assured that some of them will be renovated and restructured while others will be demolished because they no longer meet the expectations of citizens, especially those made with prefabricated materials.
"These university hospitals (between new and refurbished) will meet the expectations of citizens in terms of care and will conform to international standards" he affirmed, adding he number of anti-cancer center (ACC) will rise from 13 to 29 in 2018.
