An Emirati cancer patient will be sent to Germany for treatment in line with instructions from Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The case was brought to Shaikh Hamdan's attention when the patient's mother called a radio station and spoke live about her son's illness and incorrect diagnosis and the family's grievance over the careless treatment they received from the Ministry of Health. The 31-year-old patient, identified as Ahmad Khamis Fairuz from Umm Al Quwain, was first diagnosed with a kidney disease at Dubai Hospital. He was taken to Rashid Hospital where the doctors suspected he had Aids before his malignant lymphatic tumour was diagnosed, the patient's brother, Waleed Fairuz, told Arabic daily Al Khaleej. Strength to fight The patient said the generous gesture by Shaikh Hamdan gave him hope and strength to fight the disease after seven months of suffering. "I have a great feeling of love and gratitude towards Shaikh Hamdan, and we are used to his noble humanitarian gestures," Ahmad Fairuz said. Hamad Mattar Al Falasi, Director of Treatment Abroad and Patients' Affairs Office at Dubai Health Authority, said the office took immediate action by sending the patient's medical reports to the authority's health office in Germany to look for the best hospital to treat him, while the patient's family was working to complete his travel arrangements. Dr Javeed Younus, an internist at Rashid Hospital, said the patient's condition is unstable and he is not fit to travel, but the medical team is working to stabilise him, which will probably be done within a week.
