Dubai Health Authority held several activities to mark "Zayed humanitarian Work Day," an annual event held in the memory of the founding father of the U.A.E., the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Ramadan 19 named as "Zayed Humanitarian Day," is an annual event in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed and aims to inculcate the spirit of giving and philanthropy.
As part of the activities to mark this day, Noor Dubai Foundation, an NGO that was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the U.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai, to combat blindness and visual disability, held an eye-screening campaign for labourers in Al Quos.
The screening was conducting through Noor Dubai Foundation’s mobile Eye Clinic that has been sponsored by Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai (RTA) The mobile clinic for eyes is the first-of-its-kind in the UAE and is equipped with latest equipment. The clinic includes a reception area and two rooms for examination of vision and refractive errors.
Essa Al Maidoor, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, and Chairman of the Noor Dubai Foundation, confirmed that the clinic is equipped with the latest medical devices for eye examination.
He said the free screening program began on the 2nd of July and will continue until the 22nd of July. Al Maidoor said " The screening program includes provision of spectacles for labourers with impaired vision. Our aim is to reach out to as many labourers as possible during this screening program and presently we are able to screen 200 to 250 cases per day. We also educate the labourers on how to take care of their eyes." Dr. Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Public Transport Agency (PTA) at RTA, Moza Al Murri, Director of RTA Marketing and Corporate Communication and Abdulla Al Gurg, Group General Manager of Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group LLC, were present today during the screening program.
In addition to this program, several other programs were held at the DHA to mark this initiative.
Keeping in line the vision of Sheikh Zayed, the founding father of the U.A.E., DHA held several initiatives during the Holy month of Ramadan including distributing Ramadan packages to staff members and patients in need.
The Authority also provided daily Iftar packages for 400 cleaners and security personnel working across the various entities of the DHA and distributed school bags to children in need.
Tomorrow, DHA primary healthcare physicians and team members from the Moussadah committee will visit the homes of 300 elderly patients and distribute medical essentials such as wheel-chairs, blood pressure monitoring machines etc. as part of this initiative.
