Two Ebola virus infection cases, suspected in Russia, have not been confirmed, head of the Russian consumer rights watchdog (Rospotrebnadzor) Anna Popova told reporters on Tuesday.
“We have recorded in Russia two cases that required our investigation, but the diagnosis has not been confirmed in both of them. Two comers who were running a temperature, have passed all the necessary procedures and examinations, but the diagnosis was not set,” she said.
According to the Rospotrebnadzor head, the agency is taking all measures to prevent the Ebola virus spread into Russia. “All our sanitary-quarantine checkpoints at airports are on the alert,” Popova said. “We are interacting with Russia’s airports, air carriers, ports - with all the spots where possible Ebola cases may appear.”
She added that transit passengers from Africa are also under close monitoring. “After they check in for a flight at the point of transfer we have several hours to meet them,” the Rospotrebnadzor head said.
She said, referring to data of the World Health Organisation (WHO) that a total of 2,615 infections and 1,427 deaths have been recorded in the Ebola outbreak now hitting West Africa.
