Sierra Leone's Health Ministry on Monday confirmed that one person died of the Ebola virus in the West African country's eastern region close to the Guinea border. Chief Medical Officer Brima Kargbo said that over the weekend 11 people in the Kissy Teng Chiefdom in the Kailahun District, which shares the border with Guinea, were diagnosed of vomiting and diarrhea. Their samples were sent to the VHF laboratory in Kenema in eastern Sierra Leone, some 300 kilometers from the capital Freetown, he told Xinhua. The laboratory confirmed one case of Ebola while the other three are yet to be confirmed, said Kargbo. The health official added that a health surveillance team has been dispatched to Kailahun to conduct epidemiological investigations and appropriate measures have been put in place, including repositioning of drugs and medical supplies.
