FAO
Cairo - MENA

The number of undernourished in the Near East and North Africa (NENA) has more than doubled from 16 to 33 million people between 2004 and 2014 due to wars and unrest in the region, said FAO assistant director-general and regional representative Abdel-Salam Ould Ahmed.
Giving a speech during the celebration of Egypt's Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ministry in cooperation with FAO on the occasion of the World Food Day, Ahmed further said that the number doubled despite the progress attained by some Arab countries, including Egypt.
He added that combating hunger in the world attained great progress over the past period, noting that the number of undernourished in the world went down by 100 million people since 2004.
