Kuwait, represented by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), takes part in the first international conference on halal food with a related exhibition inaugurated last Saturday By Riyadh Governor Prince Sattam Bin Abdulazizin in the Saudi capital. The event is held under the auspices of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abduallah Bin Abdulaziz. Head of Kuwaiti delegation, Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Inspection Affairs at Kuwaiti Abdullah Al-Ali told KUNA that this conference witnessed a number of symposia gathering food experts from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Arab nations, Europe, United States, Chine, Russia and South Africa. They emphasized the importance of Islamic slaughter to consumer health. KISR presented two researches to the conference, the first by Dr. Hani Al-Mazidi, on supervision on halal products and Islamic slaughter, and the second by Dr. Husam Al-Omairah on possible applications of nanotechnology in guaranteeing food quality, Al-Ali said. This conference is organized by Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) out of its commitment in supervising Saudi imports from more than 150 countries. The event was attended by 120 participants with more than 60 researches to be discussed on this matter. The conference also will include two seminars tackling methods of slaughter, food produced through biotechnology and nanotechnology, and chemical changes on food. Nanotechnology is an expected future manufacturing technology that will make most products lighter, stronger, cleaner, less expensive. Biotechnology (or biotech) is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bioprocesses in engineering, technology, medicine and other fields requiring bio-products.
