The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) signed here on Wednesday a contract for rebuilding 172 houses destroyed in Bosnia and Herzegovina by last May floods.
Over the past months, the KRCS has been investigating needs of the people hit by the floods in the country, the society's Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi said in a press conference following the signing ceremony.
It is a priority to complete the project before the cold winter season arrives, especially in the area of Hercegovacko-Bosanski Kanton, hard hit by the floods, Al-Hasawi added, referring to the humanitarian role Kuwait plays around the globe.
Kuwait's ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Nasser Al-Mutairi underscored keenness to continue support the country, saying that Kuwait spends 1.3 per cent of its GDP for backing humanitarian activities, not including aid by the Kuwaiti private sector.
He also expressed pride over the last month UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a "Humanitarian Leader" and Kuwait a "Humanitarian Center." For his part, KRSC Director General Abdulrahman Al-Oun said that they had initiated with this aid a significant march for boosting bilateral ties, noting that the society would carry on with its charity activities there.
Bosnian Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Damir Ljubic expressed gratitude to the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti people for the generous aid through the KRCS.
Bosnian grand mufti Husein Kavazovic, told the cnference that the Kuwaiti aid reflects solidarity with his country.
