As Liberians await the WHO to be declared Ebola-free by April 13 after not recording any new case in 20 days, a single case was reported Friday in the densely populated Caldwell community, outside the capital, Monrovia.
Liberia on Friday confirmed a woman from the community tested positive of the virus further complicating the drive toward achieving an Ebola-free status.
"The confirmation of this new case will surely undermine the path to Ebola-free declaration," said police officer Jacob McDonald.
Citizens and residents of the Ebola hard hit nation where more than 4,000 died of the virus since March 2014 have been counting the days left for declaration by the WHO if no case is reported by April 13.
WHO requires 42 days without any new case to elapse from the last known case before a country can be declared free of the virus.
It can be recalled that Liberia discharged two weeks ago its last Ebola patient, Beatrice Yardolo, from the Chinese Ebola Treatment Unit.
The identity of the woman who tested positive of the virus at the Redemption Hospital Transit Center run by the medical charity MSF is yet unknown.
But MSF Communication Director Adolphus Mawolo said the case, a female came from Caldwell, a densely populated suburb, not far from the former Ebola hotspot of St Paul Bridge, outside the capital, Monrovia is urgent. "The case is being treated as a matter of urgency," Mawolo said.
