The Mayo Clinic says it is engaged in talks about a possible collaboration to build a medical site in India. An Indian infrastructure conglomerate GMR Group is said to be in talks with Mayo, based in Rochester, Minn., and an entity called Apollo Hospitals Group about the plan, the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press reported Sunday. "Mayo Clinic is exploring the possibility of collaborating with partners to build and operate a medical facility in India," Bryan Anderson, a spokesman for the Mayo Clinic, told the Pioneer-Press in an email. "The venture reflects Mayo Clinic's commitment to serve patients and medical providers around the world by sharing our knowledge in new ways, improving global health and advancing healthcare delivery." The Apollo group operates 54 hospitals including many medical centers in India, the company's Web site says. The Mayo Clinic health system operates hospitals in Arizona and Florida as well as a network of hospitals and clinics in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
