Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, senior officials and diplomats.
Dr. Marc Harrison said In 2005, the Abu Dhabi government launched the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 to propel the Emirate into a world-leading knowledge economy; a key pillar of this Vision is to develop a sustainable healthcare system for the Emirate, allowing patients to receive quality, specialized care at home.
He added that Cleveland Clinic has a long history with the people of the UAE and has seen Emirati patients treated there for complex cases and noted that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will complement the healthcare landscape in Abu Dhabi and the services offered by other healthcare facilities in the Emirate.
Seen as the first replication of a US multispecialty hospital outside of North America, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a purpose-built medical campus that will have five Centers of Excellence through its Heart & Vascular Institute, Neurological Institute, Digestive Disease Institute, Eye Institute and Respiratory & Critical Care Institute.
"The five Centers of Excellence will be among 12 Institutes, which include 30+ medical and surgical specialties. The hospital will provide critical and acute care to patients in the UAE and the region and is committed to patient safety and high quality through measured and published clinical outcomes," said Dr. Harrison.
He emphasised that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is dedicated to empowering the Emirati workforce through knowledge and skills transfer to support a sustainable healthcare system in the Emirate.
Scheduled to begin seeing patients in 2015, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will complement the healthcare landscape in Abu Dhabi and the services offered by other healthcare facilities in the Emirate. A unique and unparalleled extension of US-based Cleveland Clinic, leveraging its 90+ years of clinical legacy and expertise, it will be the first replication of a US multispecialty hospital outside of North America.
Strategically located on Al Maryah Island, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will be a 364 (expandable to 490) bed hospital, with five clinical floors, three diagnostic and treatment levels, 13 floors of critical and acute inpatient units and 26 operating rooms.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of the first healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi to be LEED Gold-Certified.
Its 450+ Caregivers currently onboard are actively implementing a replication based on Cleveland Clinic’s clinical culture and patient centered model of care. Its Group Practice Model of Care, a collaborative, team-based approach to patient care, is unprecedented in the UAE and the GCC region, as is its caliber of people, processes and technology.
Nearly 3,000 clinical and non-clinical Caregivers from more than 50 nationalities will work in the hospital once it is fully operational including 175 physicians who will practice in a physician-led, patient centered model of care.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will have 1,500 nurses and allied health professionals. Nursing staff will be multinational and 45% of all nurses will be Western-trained, bringing world-class medical care to patients in Abu Dhabi.
Currently, Emiratis serve in clinical and non-clinical roles, from executive leadership through clinical and administrative staff, across the hospital. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is dedicated to empowering the Emirati workforce through knowledge and skills transfer to support a sustainable healthcare system.
Marc Harrison, MD, serves as Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a world-class multispecialty hospital on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi. In 2011, Dr. Harrison joined Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi after a 12-year career with US-based Cleveland Clinic.
He holds a Medical Degree from Dartmouth Medical School, a Master’s Degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a certificate in Managing Healthcare Delivery from Harvard Business School
