Dubai - Arabstoday

The Ministry of Health launched an e-services system to review and assess the performance of nursing services in the UAE's hospitals. Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health, emphasised the importance of the nursing staff and their role in enhancing medical and health practices in improving and developing the quality of health care in the UAE. He said the ministry works on regulating the nursing profession, unifying standards of nursing services, planning for human resources, improving the performance of nurses and fresh graduates as well as nursing information technology systems. He also added that the field needs professional experiences and quality assurance to protect the society members from diseases. He stated this after receiving the annual report of the nursing central department. Dr Fatima Al Rifaee, Director of Nursing Central Department in the Ministry of Health, said: "The 2010 annual report of the nursing central department aims at encouraging national human resources and the professional role of nursing and midwifery staff as well as all health professions in accordance with local, regional and international trends." The ministry provided all educational and training opportunities for nursing and midwifery professionals to enhance the best nursing and midwifery practices. The updated e-services system, provided by the central nursing department, has been developed through the ministry's website to review and assess the performance of nursing services in the UAE's hospitals. The nursing central department will also review and update the policies, procedures and standards of the nursing care to be distributed on nurses. It will also form a committee to develop the nursing researches database and examine all the accomplished studies. The department is also expected to develop and improve the performance of nurses in ministry hospitals and health centres on the techniques of controlling infections, injections through CPR and health education for diabetes patients.
