In Albania there are no suspected Ebola cases, Albanian deputy minister of Health Klodian Rjepaj on Friday told a news briefing, concerning a British man who died on Thursday of "Ebola-like symptoms" within hours of being admitted to hospital in neighboring Macedonia.
Rjepaj detailed the actions that Albanian Ministry of Health has taken for prevention of any probable infection through imported cases of Ebola virus.
Reminding people that Ebola is transmitted through the contact with the blood, tissues or bodily fluids of sick individuals, or through the contact of contaminated objects or surfaces, he said that Ministry of Health is paying great attention to the necessary procedures.
Rjepaj also appealed to the Albanian citizens to be very cautious when detecting relatives with symptoms such as sudden onset of fever, weakness, muscle pain, headaches and external bleeding, vomiting and diarrhea and rush them to hospital.
Macedonian health authorities reported on Oct. 9 that a person with Ebola-like symptoms had died in a Skopje hospital. They are conducting tests to establish the cause of death.
Macedonian health officials said the Briton had travelled from London on Oct. 2 with a colleague. He had been staying at a hotel in central Skopje when he was taken ill with severe stomach ache and an increased temperature. The man remained in his hotel room for three days before an ambulance was called on Thursday afternoon. He was taken to hospital where he died 90 minutes later.
