Qatar Red Crescent
Doha - QNA

Under the patronage of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) will launch tomorrow (Tuesday) the 10-day Sixth Disaster Management Camp (DMC-6) at the Marine Scout Camp, Al-Khor.
The organizers have finished the preparations for the initiation of the camp, which is attended by 350 trainees from QRC and 25 Qatari and Arab institutions, in addition to 45 disaster management trainers.
The participants will receive an intensive training program that involves theoretical and practical exercises, to be unveiled in detail during the press briefing.
The camp receives wide regional and international attention as the only Arabic-speaking specialized training event of such a scale. The purpose of it is to build a well-trained base of volunteers who respond to disasters timely and effectively, enhance coordination with relevant organizations and authorities, minimize casualties and property losses, and help the society recover from any future disasters.
QRC has already successfully organized five training camps in 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, and 2014, graduating hundreds of volunteers who would later play an effective role with QRC in responding to many disasters in other countries. As such, the camp has established itself as an event that distinguishes QRC not only inside Qatar, but also across the region.
This ample visibility of the camp and the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior reflect the importance attached by the State of Qatar to the management of natural disasters and international cooperation to respond to and reduce their impact. Capacity building is a strategic priority under Qatar National Vision 2030, as the only way to create a culture of preparedness and knowledge of the latest disaster response tools around the world.
